Amazing Mountains

I feel like I could fill an album simply with photos of mountains. So I’m going to do just that!

Dramatic, epic in scale, and carrying an inherent danger as well as great beauty; they’re a natural wonder and are breath taking to see.

As with my other galleries, this is one that will grow over time, and I look forward to sharing captures of my favourite mountains with you!

Latrigg

Quite a bit lower in height and intensity than some of the other mountains that will feature in this collection, but no less beautiful: Latrigg is a fell close to my heart.

The view is from the summit, catching part of Derwent Water and Keswick, and looking across to the mountain ridges of Newlands Valley.

The first, warmer, shot is a recent recreation of a photo taken during the pandemic, when lockdown was easing (the second, cooler and moodier shot is the original). For the weeks prior to the moody blue picture, my photos were limited to walks in and around Carlisle.

This was the first opportunity I had to go slightly further afield, and I had to choose a sensible mountain that didn't involve too much travel or danger. So, Latrigg it was. It felt spectacular! Travelling a few miles down the road and having this dramatic change of scenery felt like being abroad.

I love the tale that the two photos tell. One is warm and sunny and optimistic, and the other is cold and moody, and taken in the middle of a literal and metaphorical storm. The view, although beautiful, is almost a typical rolling mountain ridge shot, but for the reasons above, I think this always will be one of my favourite landscapes.

The photos from my Wales trip continue!

Hiking to the top of Snowdon was a fantastic day, and one of the great achievements of our week.

These are some of the photos I took on the way up and then from the summit too, particularly focusing on the interesting views of the lakes, the south ridge, and some of the nice lighting we were blessed with on the day.

Whenever I do an edit that turns out to be an almost stylised or interpreted version of the subject, rather than just presenting it naturally, I feel like I need to give an excuse for it, or at least explain it.

I don’t know what to say about this edit, other than it’s where I ended up! I followed the dominant colours and emphasised them, whilst reducing and darkening the less dominant colours. As always, the interesting lighting was key to making my shots stand out, and again I followed the natural flow of this to arrive at the end result.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos, and feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments!
